Starting point for hiking and train adventures
Departure point for your train and mountain experience. Only 75 minutes by train from Zurich and you are in the Alpine city of Chur, the centre of Switzerland's holiday region. The Glacier and Bernina Express trains of the Rhaetian Railway, departing from Chur, link the Engadine, St. Moritz, the southern Grisonian valleys and Italy as well as the Surselva and Zermatt in the Valais. These trains also run partly on the line included in the UNESCO World Heritage list since July 2008. The Bernina line is a superb trans-Alpine line which climbs the Grisonian mountains at a gradient of 70:1000 m. The Glacier Express has panorama carriages which afford excellent panoramic views of the Alpine landscape.
Chur is the only city in Switzerland with its own winter and summer sports region, conveniently linked with the city by means of an aerial cableway. Six winter and summer resorts, among them Davos, Arosa, the Alpenarena (Flims/Laax) and Lenzerheide as well as world-famous sites such as Heidi's House, the Swiss Grand Canyon, or the Viamala Gorge are only a short drive from Chur.
